Under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2021, this 2021 edition of the EuroNanoForum addressed, during the two days of the conference (5-6 May 2021), Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials as the key elements to guarantee the functioning, long term durability, safety, and environmental compatibility of many devices, machinery, and services, highlighting the fundamental role of advanced materials for the transition to greener technologies, and a more sustainable future, making a significant contribution to the ambitious goals set by the European Green Deal. Furthermore, the role of nano-enabled industries in the drive towards a green and resilient Europe was also enhanced.

visit of POLYMAT to UP

Usue Aspiazu, student from the University of the Basque Country (Spain) is visiting the University of Potsdam (Germany). Usue, as a member of POLYMAT, one of our partner institutions in the NanoPAT project, will stay for one month (June 2021) at the innoFSPEC laboratory in Golm to receive training in PDW spectroscopy. This acquired knowledge about the PDW measurement technique will be used to monitor the NanoPAT polymer synthesis processes.

Nicola Palombo, a colleague from IRIS Technology Solutions (Spain), has recently visited POLYMAT (University of Basque Country, Spain) (14-18th June 2021). He brought the Turbidity Spectrometry (TUS) equipment developed at IRIS to the POLYMAT laboratories in San Sebastian, Basque Country.

The European Commission, Directorate-General for Environment and DG Research & Innovation, organised virtually the 1st Stakeholders Meeting on Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design on 19 March 2021, since Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) is considered a key element to the transition to the Green Deal, moving to climate neutrality, zero pollution and circular economy. This first workshop aimed to start developing the criteria for SSbD implementation.
