As follow up activity from the visit of IRIS colleagues to Evonik pilot environment in January 2024, a second Turbidity Spectrometry (TUS) measuring campaign took place from 11-15 March 2024 in Evonik’s facilities in Wesseling, Germany, as part of WP6 “NanoPAT Industrial Pilot Plant Demonstration” activities.
This time, James Bolton, from IRIS Technology Solutions, visited Evonik‘s team (Hilmer Tasto, Julie Michaud-Bernlochner and Gottlieb Lindner) to install and test IRIS’ TUS system in the 160 L R+D reactor. James installed the system and took turbidity measurements for two of Evonik’s SiO2 precipitation reactions until the gelation point was reached (duration of the reactions: 23 and 35 minutes). So far, the results are very satisfactory. IRIS colleagues are now working on developing a model using these results.
